REFLECTIONS & LIGHT: HOW TO USE THE ENERGY OF THE FULL MOON

Each and every day we wake up and our thoughts revolve around and through projections and memories.

Every day we make new promises to ourselves and to others, we start new endeavours, we make mental notes to do such and such thing by such and such time or date. These things can be as large and lofty as locking into a year contract with our local gym, or as small and mundane as making a grocery list in anticipation of eating pizza for dinner.

The fact of the matter is we're constantly planning and preparing and anticipating for some sort of future based on things we've experienced or thought about in the past. We imagine ourselves with a belly full of pizza and a smile on our face, just as we imagine ourselves with a rippling six pack running a marathon (ok, maybe not the marathon thing, but you know what I mean) .

Without checks and balances it's difficult to assess how far we've come and/or how far we've yet to go. It's easy to live a life of complacency -  putting off to tomorrow the objects of our desires and our most precious dreams -  when we avoid the conversation of accountability.

On the night of a full moon, we're given an interesting opportunity to reflect.

Over the course of 29.5 days, the moon travels around the Earth. What happened this past month? What did you learn? What did you fail at? Where were you 30 days ago?

Tie that reflection to the infiniteness of the moon cycle and the short nature of your life. What really matters?

As we weave the tapestry of our lives day by day, it's not often that we get to preview what the final product will look like. Sometimes we don't even know what tomorrow will hold.

Is life broken down into a series of ins and outs, ups and downs across the loom? Or is life lived in the immediate, present moment?

In either case, it's always a good thing to take a moment to reflect, readjust the course, revel in our successes and learn from our failures.

The moon is often seen as a symbol of the unconscious realm, illuminating the hidden parts of our egos, bringing to light deeply held desires and fears. It can be a scary place to go, but go we must if we hope to move forward.

The next time you get a chance, take a moment to look at the moon and contemplate your existence, and from that point consider what you want the next 30 days to look like.

Honest conversations can be difficult, but they're always worth it.
