2017 TYPOGRAPHY CALENDAR
We love to drool over gorgeous typography here at The Kitten Life.
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point sizes, line lengths, line-spacing (leading), and letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space between pairs of letters (kerning).
Nothing gets us going more than a perfect pairing of serif and sans serif fonts, or an unexpectedly well-fitted colour combo of header and body text.
Before I started doing design work I rarely, if ever, thought about the difference between fonts, other than in terms of my own personal preference when deciding on one in which to write an essay before converting it to the standard Times New Roman when it came time to print and hand in.
Have you spent time thinking about typography? What does typography mean to you?
Time, like typography, means very little until applied to the material world.
Until a word, a sentence, a paragraph, is laid to rest on a piece of paper or in the glowing rectangle of a computer, phone or tablet, typography has nothing to do with its ability to communicate meaning.
Similar to time, this vague notion that things are moving along steadily, steadily, with the turning of our planet, has very little to do with our existence until we make an agreement with our employer, our loved ones, our friends, that we will be in a certain place to meet them and follow through on a commitment.
Calendars, time, checks and balances are all necessary to keep this life clipping along at an even pace, making all our deadlines, clocking in and out.
We decided to create The Kitten Life calendar to combine some of our favourite things: typography, colour theory, time and the wise words of prominent figures in history.
Nicole, a notoriously enthusiastic typographer, did a beautiful job with the style, design and formatting of this 2017 calendar, with monthly quotes to inspire you throughout the year.
Similar to Pantone choosing the refreshing and inspiring Greenery for their 2017 colour of the year, we focused positive, uplifting energy into the creation of a 2017 calendar in the hopes that both the global climate and your inner world will be much lighter than 2016 seemed to be for many.
